Despite its flexibility, Kinesio tape is supposed to stabilize muscles and give the athlete awareness of muscle engagement, known as proprioception. In addition, some claim that it slightly lifts the skin away from the muscle, which is supposed to help reduce swelling and promote blood flow to the muscle.
What is special about kinesiology tape?
Itgently allows the free flow of blood and lymphatic fluid to cleanse and heal the inflammationwithout the use of medications or surgery. This special tape helps to improve circulation, support muscles, allow the internal injury to heal, and help prevent further muscle injury while still allowing motion.
What is the difference between the colours? There is no physical or chemical difference between thecolours. The colours were developed to be compatible with colour therapy. The beige was created for minimal visibility and the black was created after many requests.
Can KT tape hurt you?
A: In general, tape is safe to use for almost anyone. However, if you have cancer, an open wound or an active infection, you should avoid tape until those issues resolve. Tape works with your lymphatic system and increases circulation, so it could make some of those conditions worse.
Disadvantages of taping
Can be bulky (particularly if using a bracing option)
Can be harmful if not performed correctly e.g. further injury, skin damage, etc.
Can restrict movement and therefore performance.
Could increase risk of injury to other joints.
